Signing and Exchange of Notes regarding the Grant Aid for the Republic of Yemen "Food Aid (in collaboration with the WFP )"

On July 16 in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Yoichi NAKASHIMA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Yemen, and Mr. Elkhidir DALOUM, Representative and Country Director, World Food Programme, Yemen Country Office, signed and exchanged notes concerning grant aid of 300 million yen (approximately 1.9 million USD) for "Food Aid (in collaboration with WFP)" . H.E. Jamal Awadh Nasser, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen also attended the ceremony.
1. In Yemen, due to the long-standing economic crisis and conflict, more than half of the population, 18.3 million people, are facing severe food insecurity, with approximately 5 million of them estimated to be in a critical situation.
2. This cooperation aims to improve food security and nutritional status in Yemen, and will provide food assistance to the country through the WFP.
3. Supporting peace and stability in Yemen, which faces the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, contributes to the stability of the Middle East region and the security of sea lanes. The Japanese government intends to continue working actively towards achieving peace and stability in Yemen in cooperation with the United Nations and other relevant countries.
