1. In Yemen, high unemployment has become the norm due to the effects of the long-standing conflict. The country's public Technical and Vocational Training Centers (TVTCs) have significantly reduced their functions due to the damage to infrastructure and lack of funds caused by the conflict, making it difficult to train skilled workers. In addition, 4.7 million IDPs (approximately one-seventh of the population) are unable to earn an income since they have no skills and jobs, thus many are unable to lead normal lives.
2. This cooperation will rehabilitate TVTCs and provide related capacity development training in three southern governorates (Aden, Lahj, and Taiz). It is expected to contribute to increasing employment opportunities for young people in the country through expanding vocational training and enriching economic means.
3. Supporting peace and stability in Yemen, which borders the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, will contribute to ensuring the security of sea lanes. The Government of Japan will continue to work proactively toward the realization of peace and stability in Yemen, in cooperation with the United Nations and relevant countries.
