Signing and Exchange of Notes regarding the Grant Aid for the Republic of Yemen "Food Aid (in collaboration with the WFP )"

On July 7 (local time), in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Mr. Yoichi Nakashima, Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen , and Mr. Abdallah Alwardat, Director of Global Partner Countries Division, World Food Programme (WFP), signed and exchanged notes regarding a grant aid for “Food Aid (in collaboration with the WFP)” worth 300 million yen (approximately 2 million USD).
1. In Yemen, due to the lingering conflict, 17.1 million people, more than half of the population, are in need of food assistance. In addition, Yemen is facing a severe food insecurity, with 5.1 million people classified as Phase 4, which indicates a humanitarian emergency, on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).
2. This cooperation will provide food aid to Yemen through the WFP, with the aim of improving food security and nutritional conditions in the country.
3. Supporting peace and stability in Yemen, which faces the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, will contribute to ensuring the security of sea lanes. The Japanese government, in cooperation with the United Nations and related countries, will continue to actively work toward achieving peace and stability in Yemen.
