●Word Count: Approximately 1,300 characters

●Choose one Japanese word or phrase that you love the most from your Japanese language studies.

 

1. You may select from kanji, idioms (two-character, three-character, four-character idioms), proverbs, onomatopoeia, haiku, tanka, anime quotes, song lyrics, excerpts from novels or academic papers, and write it within 1 to 100 characters.

2. Explain why you love that Japanese word or phrase and describe your experiences with Japanese language learning, including: 

  - What inspired you to learn Japanese? 

  - The joys and challenges of learning Japanese 

  - Your dreams and aspirations for Japanese language study and research

 

Theme: What is your favorite Japanese word or phrase?

 

Eligibility:

Open to non-Japanese nationals who are learning or researching the Japanese language.

Individual applications and group submissions from universities or Japanese language schools are both accepted.

Each submission must include the applicant’s name, nationality, age, gender, school or occupation, and contact details (email address).

 

Deadline:

Submissions must arrive by Thursday, May 1, 2025 (Reiwa 7).
