Japan extends two grants to two grass-roots projects in Jehana district, Sana’a Governorate, and in Radfan district, Lahej Governorate
The Government of Japan decided to extend two grants to two grass-roots projects in the Republic of Yemen under the Japanese scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects”, which aims at supporting small scale community-based projects in the field of basic human needs, such as primary health care, basic education and rural water supply in the developing countries.
Mr. Masakazu Toshikage, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Yemen, signed today in Sana’a two agreements to this effect with Dr. Talal Hassan Abdulwahab Al-Jabri, Director of Mohammed Al-Dorah Hospital in Jehana district, Sana’a governorate, and Mr. Adnan Mohammed Ali Kutaish, General Manager of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Lahej Governorate.
The first grant of US$68,200 will be used to purchase medical equipment for improving services of ICU unit, operation room and other facilities of Mohammed Al-Dorah Hospital in Jehana district, Sana’a governorate. The grant aims at upgrading the medical services of the hospital in order to improve the health situation and reduce sufferings of the inhabitants in the area.
The second grant of US$85,500 will be used to purchase 4 garbage dump trucks by the Cleaning and Improvement Fund of Lahej governorate, for the project for “Cleaning and Improving Environmental Health” in Radfan district. The grant aims at improving the environment and the public health of the inhabitants in Radfan district.
These are the first two grass-roots projects funded by the Government of Japan in the Republic of Yemen during the current Japanese fiscal year (April 2008–March 2009) under the above-mentioned Japanese scheme. During the past Japanese fiscal year, Japan had funded 17 grass-roots projects in the Republic of Yemen totaling US$1,337,350 under the same scheme
