Japan extends grants to two grass-root projects in Dali’a and Shabwa governorates
The Government of Japan decided to extend grants to two grass-roots projects in Damt district, Al-Dali”a Governorate, and Khamar area in Shabwa Governorate under the Japanese scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects.” This scheme aims at supporting small scale community-based projects in the area of basic human needs, such as primary health care, basic education and rural water supply in the developing countries, including the Republic of Yemen.
H.E. Mr. Masakazu Toshikage, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Yemen, signed today in Sana’a, two agreements to this effect with Mr. Sadiq Al-Adrisi, General Manager of Cleaning and Improvement Fund of Al-Dali’a Governorate, and Dr. Ishraq Al-Suba’i, President of the Modern Youth Society of Shabwa Governorate
The first grant, in the amount of more than YR16 million, will be used for the project for improving Environmental Public Health in Damt City, Al-Dali’e Governorate through which AL-Dhali’a Cleaning and Improvement Fund, will purchase four garbage dump trucks. The grant aims at improving the cleaning services thereby, boosting the environment and the public health of the inhabitants in Damt district.
The second grant, in the amount of nearly YR16 million, will be used for the project for improving the Water Supply System in Khamar area, at Ataq district in Shabwa Governorate, through which the Modern Youth Society of Shabwa governorate, will purchase a submersible pump unit and a generator etc. The grant aims at providing clean drinking water to the inhabitants, thereby, reducing sufferings of women and children from the heavy labor burden, and improving the health condition of the inhabitants in the area. Thousands of citizens will benefit from these two projects in the two governorates.
During the current Japanese fiscal year (April 2008 - March 2009) Japan funded Ten grass-root projects in the Republic of Yemen, totaling US$737,876 under the above-mentioned scheme including the aforementioned two projects. During the past Japanese fiscal year (April 2007–March 2009), Japan funded 17 grass-roots projects in Yemen totaling US$1,337,350 under the same scheme.
