A Japanese project in Yemen to provide fresh water to the inhabitants at Al-Kainaee area in Dhamar

The Embassy of Japan and Al-Kainee Local Council, held today, a delivery ceremony for the project for Improving Water Supply System in Al-Kainaee area, Al-Manar District, in Dhamar governorate, in the presence of Mr. Masakazu Toshikage, Ambassador of Japan in Sana’a and a number of Yemeni Officials from the concerned authorities.

The Government of Japan extended in 2005, a grant in the amount of US134,811 to Al-Kainaee Local Council, in Dhamar governorate, to establish a water supply system at Al-Kainaee area .

The grant aims at providing clean drinking water to the inhabitants, thereby reducing sufferings of women and children from the labor burden, and improving the health condition of the inhabitants in general. More than three thousands inhabitants are now benefiting from this project at Al-Manar district.

During the past three years, the Government of Japan funded 54 projects in the Republic of Yemen, totaling US$4,477,546 under a Japanese scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects.” This scheme aims at supporting small scale community-based projects in the area of basic human needs, such as primary health care, basic education and rural water supply in the developing countries.
