Japan extends a grant to a Cleaning Project at Al-Qatn District In Hadramout Governorate,

The Government of Japan decided to extend a grant to a Cleaning Project at Al-Qatn District in Hadramout Governorate under the Japanese scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects”, which aims at supporting small scale community-based projects in the field of basic human needs, such as primary health care, basic education and rural water supply in the developing countries.

Mr. Masakazu Toshikage, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Yemen, signed today in Sana’a, an agreements to this effect with Mr. Hasan Abdulla Basawwad, Secretary General of the Local Council of Al-Qatn District in Hadramout Governorate.

The grant in the amount of more than YR17 million, will be used to purchase 4 garbage dump trucks by the Local Council of Al-Qatn District, for the project for “Improving Solid Waste Management in Al-Qatn District, in Hadramout”. The grant aims at expanding the garbage collecting service to include more areas in Al-Qatn district, as well as improving the environment and the public health of the inhabitants who count more than 45,000.

This is the sixth grass-roots project funded by the Government of Japan in the Republic of Yemen during the current Japanese fiscal year (April 2008–March 2009) under the above-mentioned Japanese scheme totaling US$414.087. During the Japanese fiscal year 2007, Japan funded 17 grass-roots projects in the Republic of Yemen totaling US$1,337,350 under the same scheme.
