Inaugurating and handing-over two health projects in Al-Jawf and Hajja Governorates funded by the Government of Japan during the year 2007

  The Government of Japan extended two grants to two health projects in Al-Jawf and Hajja governorates during the year 2007, amounting to US$104,680 (One Hundred and Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighty US Dollars) under a Japanese scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects”. The scheme aims at supporting small-scale community-based projects in the areas of basic human needs, such as primary health care, basic education and rural water supply in the developing countries including the Republic of Yemen.

The projects funded consist of:
1. Funding the purchase of an ambulance, a generator, and medical equipments for Al-Hazm Health Center, in Al-Jawf Governorate.

2. Funding the purchase of medical equipments for the project for Improving Maternal and Newborn Child Health, in Hajja Governorate.

Inauguration and handing over ceremonies for the above-mentioned projects took place at the aforementioned governorates on Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 8, 2008, respectively, at the presence of Mr. Matahiro Yamaguchi, Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan, and Mr. Yosuke Miyamoto, Second Secretary at the Embassy in Sana’a, together with the concerned Yemeni Officials in Al-Jawf and Hajja Governorates.

The Government of Japan hopes that these projects will contribute to the development of the infrastructure in the objected governorates, to provide better living standard for the inhabitants.

During the last Japanese fiscal year (April 2007 – March 2008), the Government of Japan funded 17 projects in the Republic of Yemen, amounting to US$1,337,350 under the above-mentioned Japanese scheme.
